AGING CABIN
PROJECT DESCRIPTION|
Over a four week period this project focused on aging in place, transgenerational design, kitchen design, and biomimicry. Through research, I found that special considerations needed to be implemented for the aging population as well as infuse creative solutions for the younger population to successfully establish a space for both to flourish. The NKBA was used to help better understand kitchen design and finally, the overall shape of the building utilized biomimicry - mine specifically resembles the section cut of a pinecone.

The entry perspective was chosen to showcase the initial reaction upon entry. this perspective also highlights some of our clients personal items. To incorporate the younger generation the perspective is also taken at a lower eye sight.
Perspective|Entry
The kitchen perspective was one of the most important highlights of the cabin because one of the main focuses of the project was kitchen design. Through research, I learned the importance of how cabinetry operates and where to place appliances within the working triangle - defined by the NKBA.

The adjacency of the dining room to the lakeside view was considered in the space planning of this project. I wanted to create sight-lines to the lake from the dining room to encourage the concept of biophilia between the users of the the space.

The master perspective was chosen to show the ceiling feature in the space, something unique to the cabin - this creates hierarchy within the space. An acoustical feature was also implemented on the wall that is shared with the living room to minimize noise transfer.
